We have set out below our most commonly asked questions. Please contact us if you require further information.
- I have paid my account. Why can't you remove it from my credit history?
Even if you have paid your account, your credit history has to remain accurate and complete. Records of outstanding accounts are required to be listed with a credit reporting agency as part of the debt collection process for a certain number of years, and will only be removed if the account was incorrectly lodged with the bureau in the first place. Banks and financial institutions use this information to make business decisions on whether to offer credit to an individual, and it is therefore necessary for them to have access to full and accurate data.
Close - When do I have to pay collection costs?
In New Zealand, some contracts state that any costs incurred in recovering an outstanding debt must be paid by yourself. In these circumstances you become liable for any recovery costs.
Close - How are collection costs calculated?
These costs are calculated based on collection fees incurred by Baycorp up until the point you pay your account. Collection costs may include commission-based fees, field visits and legal fees, including GST.
Close - How can I pay an overdue account?
We have numerous payment options available. These include credit card, Bpay, direct debit, payment via a post office (only if you have received a letter with a barcode) and by cheque.
Close - Legal action has started on my account. I can't pay in full but can I pay it off in installments?
With all legal action we recommended that you pay your overdue account in full. However, there may be opportunities to pay overdue amounts by way of installments. Please contact Baycorp immediately to explain your situation, and we will assist you, if suitable, to set up a repayment plan.
Close - If I want to pay my outstanding account by installments, why do I have to provide details of my income and expenditure?
When you state that you are unable to pay an account in full, we need to confirm your financial situation, as we have an obligation to our client to find a solution that is acceptable to both yourself and our client.
Close - Why do you need all my contact details?
It is important that we are able to correctly identify you and establish if the debt belongs to you. If your contact details are complete and up-to-date, we are in the best position to discuss your situation and provide assistance.
Close - Will I still be able to get credit if I have an overdue account with Baycorp?
This is not a decision that Baycorp can make. When a bank or financial institution does a credit check they use their internal data and information from external sources to make their decision. If your overdue account has been paid in full this will be looked upon more favourably, however, it is no guarantee that credit will be approved.
Close - If someone else used the phone, do I still have to pay the bill?
Yes. The contract is between you and your telecommunication service provider.
